Urban Innovative Actions (UIA) is an Initiative of the European Commission that provides urban areas throughout Europe with resources to test new and unproven solutions to address urban challenges. Based on Article 8 of ERDF, the Initiative has a total ERDF budget of EUR 372 million for 2014-2020. The UIA supports local authority led projects which involve all key stakeholders that can bring expertise and knowledge on the specific policy issue to be addressed, such as agencies, research institutions, private sector and NGOs. One of the first pilot projects is Barcelona’s MINCOME which aims to address poverty and inequality that have increased in the city since the beginning of the financial crisis.Poverty and social inequality have increased in Barcelona since the financial crisis began.
