Giuseppe Pace is a researcher and a planner, with experience in the field of sustainability, governance, regional development and entrepreneurial development. He holds a M.Sc. in Civil engineering. Since 1994, he is researcher at the Institute for Studies on the Mediterranean (ISMed-CNR). Since 2019, he is the Grant Holder Scientific Representative and the Action Chair of the COST Action CA18110 “Underground Built Heritage as catalyser for Community Valorisation”. He was responsible of several international and national research projects in the social sciences context, and his interests go from evaluation instruments (multi-criteria analysis), decision-making processes (advocacy planning, public participation, multi-level governance), to finally arrive to collective learning processes and social networks and the last studies on transition management applied to sustainable transportation. Since 2016, he coordinates projects on methods, policies, practice for producing a balanced and sustainable approach to Underground Built Heritage conservation and re-use.

He collaborates with several International and Italian academic institutions, by having lectures and teaching to Master courses and Erasmus programmes in the Universities of Haifa (IL), Ghent (BE), and Newcastle-upon-Tyne (UK). From 2008 to 2018, he was visiting researcher at the Department of Engineering and Architecture of the Ghent University (BE). From 2003 to 2007, he worked at the European Commission – DG Transport and Energy in Brussels (BE), with the responsibility of the evaluation and monitoring of the Trans-European Transport Network. He is an EC expert in the framework of the Horizon 2020, Connecting Europe Facility, and TAIEX programme. He is member of the Europeana Network Association, Local Economic Development Agencies (LEDA) Partnership – Local Development Network Association, INU, and AISRe.
