LDnet’s workshop in this year’s European Week of Regions and Cities is on Achieving social inclusion in CLLD in the context of results-oriented policies. It takes place on Wednesday 12 October from 9:00 to 10:45 at the Committee of the Regions (Room JDE 70). A few places are still available. Urban-rural integration papers

LDnet’s workshop on Food sovereignty and urban-rural integration took place on Tuesday 13 October 2015 in the framework of Open Days 2015.

The workshop was led by Robert Lukesch (ÖAR/LDnet) and included case study presentations by Marianne Karstens (Amersfoort/URBACT network) and Bob Cannell (Suma Wholefoods cooperative, UK), and a panel debate with Sandra Karner (Alpen-Adria University), Toby Johnson (AEIDL/LDnet), Eleni Myrivili (City of Athens), André Vizinho (ECOLISE) and Boban Ilic (SWG RRD).

Sweden’s CLLD approach

Sweden has fully embraced the multi fund approach. In a new article, Hans-Olof Stålgren explains how the Swedish CLLD approach will work and at what stage are the preparations for implementation.

New LinkedIn groups on capacity building

Short food chains

This new EIP-AGRI report, which includes case studies from ten European countries, argues that Innovative Short Food Supply Chains(external link) have potential to improve farm incomes, promote sustainable farming systems and contribute to local economic development.

Local leadership

The OECD LEED Programme has published this report on Local Economic Leadership(external link). It explors the role of local leadership in purposeful local development and includes four case studies on Amsterdam, Hamburg, Manchester and Stockholm.

Micro level case study

This paper, A Long History of a Short Block(external link), by William Easterly (NYU), Laura Freschi (NYU) and Steven Pennings (WB) presents a development case study of one city block in New York City over four centuries and argues that the micro level is important for understanding development at national level.

The CLLD Guidance for Local Actors is available in all languages

The European Commission has published in English the long-awaited Community-Led Local Development Guidance for Local Actors. Translations into all the EU languages are now available LINK(external link)(cache). Many LDnet activists contributed to the writing and workshops that informed this guide. Guidance on CLLD addressed to Managing Authorities was published in February 2013 LINK.

New debates: impact of the crisis on local economies

We have posted two think pieces by Jean-Pierre Pellegrin which reflect on current issues and raise questions for debate: a well documented and challenging paper on the Impacts of the economic crisis on local economies and some reflections; From “digital development of local areas” towards “development of digital local areas”.
