Kristiina Tammets, Vice-president of ELARD and its President in 2016-2017, will be a key speaker at the EWRC workshop on “Local development strategies: retaining and attracting talents in the regions” on 11 October 2018 in Brussels.
Her talk will build on extensive practical experience gained on the ground. Kristiina says: “In 2010 our LAG (Tartu County Development Association) established Tartu County Youth Fund together with our county youth association in order to promote entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial mindset of young people. This Fund enables young people to apply funding for their own initiatives (small-scale projects). More than 100 projects were implemented by youngsters during 7-year time period. We have financed a very wide spectrum of activities – youth camps, festivals, different trainings, business ideas development, equipment, etc. The Youth Fund is very special and popular because it allows youngsters starting from 12 years old to finance their ideas and get full support. Now (2018) we continue with LEADER umbrella project ‘Active and enterprising young people in Tartu County’ and during the next two years we will fund at least 25 youth projects (1000 euros max per project). While implementing this kind of Fund the most important is that youngsters are active initiators and they get experience on how to develop and implement their ideas”.
