THE LOCAL DEVELOPMENT NETWORK

Local Development News

Towards a "CLLD declaration"

A number of European organisations and networks with a long experience and deep knowledge of local development are working together in order to present a joint position on CLLD to European, national and regional stakeholders on CLLD in the 2014-2020 period. A "draft statement" - Community-led local development: making it a success - has been prepared by a group of LDnet experts and has been put forward to all interested parties for their consideration and endorsement.

Further contributions on CLLD in the 2014-2020 period are welcome and can be posted on this site see blog top right or e-mailed to haris_martinos at hotmail.com

For further information on the proposals of the Commission see LD and the EU funds 2014-2020

Open Days 2012: LDnet Workshop

Community-led local development will be prominent in this year's OPEN DAYS and will include a workshop by LDnet on 9 October 2012 from 11:15 to 13:00 on "Community-led local development as a European movement". If you are interested in this workshop contact haris_martinos at hotmail.com

New articles

We are publishing a series of new articles on current topics, starting with Goran Šoster's Civil Society in European Rural Development and Toby Johnson's Community entrepreneurship for local development.

The Local Development E-book

The first edition of the The Local Development Ebook has been published comprising chapters on:Recent Research Studies; Lessons from LD in Practice; Theoretical Perspectives; LD in Ireland; LD in Developing Countries; The E-book Overview. Further chapters are in the review stage and will be published shortly.

The e-book is a dynamic document and its development and publication form an on-going process. Chapters are released as soon as their review is complete and over time new chapters will be added and old ones will be revised or replaced. This process will allow a growing number of experts and practitioners to contribute. It also makes it easier to deal with technical issues, such as links to LDnet’s knowledge base, which are easier to effect once the chapters have been uploaded.

What is LDnet?

LDnet is a new informal local development network set up in 2011 to bring together knowledge and people in local development

LDnet fields of activity
LDnet provides a forum for sharing information and knowledge among experts, researchers and all those active in local development. Its activities cover both the theory and practice of local development. In this way it acts as an independent “think tank” whose work can inform stakeholders and contribute to policy development and implementation, and generally benefit all those involved in local development in Europe and beyond. Opening up the network to a mass membership of practitioners is a long-term ambition.
Our first project is an ebook to be published this Spring.

LDnet at work
Network contributors have the opportunity to work together in open or closed groups to raise the level of debate, research and understanding of local development.
The network is mainly be web-based and virtual.
An annual event and smaller round-table meetings are also held

LDnet status and resources
LDnet is an informal network. The group of founding members will remain the informal governing body, with Haris Martinos, Jean-Pierre Pellegrin and Peter Ramsden acting as joint secretaries. The costs of the network are covered by voluntary contributions. So far the following have contributed:
Haris Martinos, Eileen Humphreys, Katalin Kolosy, Paul Soto, Filippo Strati, Fernando Barreiro, Jean-Pierre Pellegrin, Rosalba La Grotteria, Urszula Budzich-Szukala, Hartmut Siemon
